MIRI - Masters International Research Internship
For Students
What MIRI has to offer
The MIRI programme offers advanced Master's level students the opportunity to do an international research internship that complements the topic of their Master's thesis. It allows them to collaborate with international researchers on diverse topics related to sustainability, enhancing their professional profile and shaping their future career path. MIRI is not only supposed to be beneficial for students and researchers, but also aims to advance topics in sustainability in general. By facilitating more international research on sustainability, issues can be viewed from different and new angles, which makes more comprehensive solutions possible.
The MIRI Database
The MIRI Database, developed and facilitated by Freie Universität Berlin, can be described as a "Matchmaking Platform". It aims to bring together researchers and students who are interested in the same specialised topics related to sustainability.
How it works
- First, students can browse the database and see if any research topic captures their attention. If so, they ask their supervisor to reach out to the researcher (the contact is provided in the database) and ask them if they have capacity to host the student for an internship.
- Apply for funding through UZH. You can find all the necessary information and application link for funding in the following link. Finances for SEMP-Traineeships
- Once students have decided on the timing, they should look for travel options and accommodations and plan their stay abroad.

For Researchers and Research Groups
MIRI is continously looking for more participants to expand the network, also on the researchers side. If you are a researcher and would like to host a student, or send students, joining MIRI would be a great idea.
